When thinking about holidays, historically we think about fancy hostels, golden beaches and filling up on too many alcoholic drinks. Or perhaps we think about hi-rise buildings, dear dining, Broadway Theater, and filling up on too many alcoholic drinks. A tropical Caribbean island getaway, to a comfortable Bed + Breakfast close to an isolated ski location, in all possibility, your vision doesn’t include deep journey travel holidays and overseas journey tours are reasonably new concepts to lots of folks.

The concept of a hiking holiday, as an example, one where you sleep in eco-lodges, or tents under the stars, where you travel on horseback, or on foot, and where you carry your daily food on your back, these aren’t the standard activities that are evoked when one thinks of going on vacation. More folks are slowly changing the idea of what a holiday can and can’t comprise.

Overseas journeys are something everybody should experience at least one time in an entire life. There’s so much to be said for getting away from the normal, from the everyday, from what you are used to. The ideas of traveling, of seeing new places, meeting new folk, exploring other facts around the world, these are ideas that have been about for centuries. Today tour corporations create packages for tours that were officially only applicable for the local intrepid backpacker. Eco tourism has proven itself to be more dynamic at times then the environment, incorporating new and exciting techniques of manipulating the practice hiking holiday.

The Future

And some may ask, Is this a good thing? What about the environment? For that, we’ll need to wait another twenty years and see how both legit and supposed eco tour operators pan-out.
